Rhythmic gymnasts bag 13 medals

Five rhythmic gymnasts from Gymstars brought home 13 medals after competing in the Gold Reef Invitational competition in Johannesburg over the weekend

POLOKWANE – Five rhythmic gymnasts from Gymstars brought home 13 medals after competing in the Gold Reef Invitational competition in Johannesburg over the weekend.

“For some this was their first competition in rhythmic gymnastics, and although it was very cold and stressful, the girls did great,” said the coach, Lelanie Logtenberg.

The competition was held exclusively for rhythmic gymnasts who are level 4 or higher, and served as preparation for the Limpopo Championships, which will take place in Centurion on August 31. In the u/13 level 4 age group, Chanté Serfontein and Lize van Ryneveld were the overall winners.

Van Ryneveld won first place for hoop, another first place for free dance and first and second place for ball.

Serfontein won the rope event and took second place overall for free dance.

Danica Maritz won the ball routine and took fourth place overall in the u/13 level 4 age group.

Zoe Galloway was second overall with free dance, third place in the hoop event and took fourth place overall in the u/9 level 4 age group.

Anika Myburgh took third place overall in the u/15 level 4 age group and won gold for free dance and rope, as well as bronze for hoop and ball. In total, the five gymnasts won seven gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
