Softball tourney just for women
Women's softball teams in the province are preparing themselves for a softball tournament which will take place at the Polokwane Cricket Club on Saturday.
POLOKWANE – Women’s softball teams in the province are preparing themselves for a softball tournament which will take place at the Polokwane Cricket Club on Saturday.
The tournament is held annually in celebration of Women’s Month.
Eleven teams are expected to take part in the tournament, with the Tshwane University of Technology softball team from Pretoria competing in the tournament for the first time.
According to Jankies Seakamela, women’s softball provincial coordinator, the tournament was planned for August 9, but was postponed to Saturday due to unforeseen circumstances. “The tournament aims to honour women in the province. There is a floating trophy for the winner and there are individual awards for the best performers,” says Seakamela.
He says the tournament will serve as preparation for the women’s provincial softball league, which is expected to start this month.
He says three players have been selected to be part of the national softball team, which will represent the country at an international softball championships this year.
