POLOKWANE – Peter Masehela is a well-known golfer at the Polokwane Golf Club and is often in the top three of most of the competitions at the club.
He has a four handicap and has been playing golf since 2006, but before that, Peter was a caddy at the University of Limpopo Golf Club.
“When I was younger, I dreamt of becoming a pro golfer, but I now play just for the fun and the love of the game,” says Peter.
“I was a caddy at the University of Limpopo since I was 16 years old and learned a lot about golf there.
“I would sometimes caddy at the Polokwane Golf Club during bigger golf events.”
Peter and his golf partner, Jacob Mkwanda, recently competed in the Old Mutual International Pairs final at the Mar Hall Golf Estate outside Glasgow in Scotland.
“We won the national round at the Wanderers Golf Club in Pretoria and got the chance to go to Scotland,” says Peter.
In Scotland, Peter and Jacob played two rounds of golf in this betterball competition that took place from October 6 to 9. In the first round, they scored 40 points, followed by 38 points in the second round to take second place overall.
“I will always remember it. It really was a dream come true for me, and to win second place in an international tournament was also very special,” says Peter.
Back home in Polokwane, Peter has been keeping up his good game by playing regularly.
“I play to win every time. I practise and play between Tuesdays and Fridays depending on my schedule. I also enjoy the weekend competitions,” he says.
“I especially enjoy the sport because it keeps me active and happy. I just love the game and being outdoors.”
