Rita All Stars lift KLG trophy

RITA All Stars won the Kaizer Letsoalo Games (KLG) super division title when they eased into a 3-1 win over Mokomotji Highlanders at the Mokomotji sports grounds on Sunday.

Going into the match, both sides were tied at 80 points each, with Rita All Stars enjoying a goal difference advantage.

This situation meant that Mokomotji Highlanders needed to win the match at all cost, as a draw would have been sufficient for Rita All Stars to take the coveted crown.

It was therefore quite surprising to see Rita All Stars emerge as the more aggressive side. It soon became clear that Rita All Stars were a far stronger side.

Almost the entire crowd jubilantly descended onto the pitch as soon as Marupine Pilusa blew the final whistle to confirm the destiny of the hard-fought trophy.

The event was graced by the presence of the respective ward councillors and headmen from the two villages where the two teams are based, as well as representatives from the royal houses of Bahlabine and Bakgaga-baga-Maake.

Earlier on, spectators watched another tough league encounter between Rakoma and Carling, which ended in a thrilling 2-2 score.

Chairperson of the KLG executive committee, Victor Nukeri, congratulated Rita All Stars on their victory.

He said that winning the super division was part of a journey.

“We want to warn you to be prepared for bigger challenges in the KLG premier division next year,” said Nukeri.

In other matches played on Saturday, Mahlogwe lost 4-1 against Napscom, Khujwana Bagdad and Bokgaga Juventus played to a 1-1 draw, as did Bahlabine and Monatic.

Liverpool beat Moime Celtic 4-3.
