Limpopo’s booing disgrace
Nkhatha was the target of a series of boos during Amakhosi's 1-0 win over Chippa United on Saturday evening and Baxter was furious after the match.
ABSA Premier Soccer League run-away leaders, Kaizer Chiefs, might have made the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex their winning fortress over the years, but their head coach, Stuart Baxter, is fed up with the harsh treatment one of his players, Kingston Nkhatha is subjected to by local Chiefs’ fans.
Nkhatha was the target of a series of boos during Amakhosi’s 1-0 win over Chippa United on Saturday evening and Baxter was furious after the match.
He even questioned his association with the club.
“I am very tired of the boos. I am tired of it. Do I want to continue pushing at a club where you do not know if your best players are going to be depressed because of boos?
“Maybe I don’t want to be. I don’t like coming to the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex because of this issue,” a furious Baxter lamented.
Nkhatha, former Black Leopards and Zimbabwean player, has been missing clear-cut chances lately and that had the fans calling for his substitution. When the coach did not give in to the supporters’ demands, they booed Nkhatha whenever he touched the ball.
The boos started at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex, but is now commonplace whenever Chiefs play.
Some Kaizer Chiefs fans are believed to have had issues with Nkhatha since his days as Black Leopards’ target man.
Kaizer Chiefs have played three matches at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex this season, drawing 0-0 with local club Polokwane City and 2-2 with Platinum Stars. They won a 1-0 victory over Chippa United on Saturday night.
By the time of going to print Amakhosi were set to lock horns with Free State Stars at the very same Peter Mokaba Sports Complex last night (Tuesday) in the first double header of the season, which also featured Polokwane City FC versus University of Pretoria.
