IN an effort to keep young people and other residents in Mulenzhe village in Vhembe busy during the festive season, former soccer player and well-known Tsonga musician, Kaizer Shibambu, organised the Hosi yo Lungha Soccer Tournament.

He said eight teams participated in the tournament, which started on December 20 and ended on December 26.

Shibambu started to promote the tournament in October when he donated a full soccer kit to each of the players of Mulenzhe based soccer team, Tovhowani Freedom Stars.

“The two teams that reached the finals received soccer balls, while the winning team received R1 000,” said Shibambu. He said the runners-up, Makovha All Stars, received R200 in prize money.

In the final round of the tournament, Mulenzhe Shooting Stars beat Makovha All Stars 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out.

Fortune Baloyi, captain of Mulenzhe Shooting Stars said he was over the moon when his team won first place.

“We practised very hard and worked together as a team. We aim to be one of the best soccer teams in the Vhembe region and to be a feeder team for the National First Division league’s Black Leopards,” said Baloyi.
