Baragwanath back on form

The defending Q1 division off-road motocross champion, Brian Baragwanath (Yamaha) led the way during the Totpak National Off-road Championships again.

POLOKWANE – The defending Q1 division off-road motocross champion, Brian Baragwanath (Yamaha) led the way during the Totpak National Off-road Championships again.

A combination of difficult and challenging weather was a hurdle that the riders had to face during the championships, which took place in the Rysmierbult area outside Ventersdorp on Saturday.

These championships constituted the first round of the junior and senior off-road motorcycle and quad racing season.

About 150 riders from across South Africa as well as Swaziland and Botswana had to endure two separate 60km loops that consisted of routes that took competitors through diamond diggings and farms to tackle the time trail.

Thirty quads entered the championships this year, and to add to the excitement, riders who took a few years’ break, such as Stefan Swanepoel, were seen back in action again.

Unfortunately, Dakar Rally hero and Brian’s teammate, Hannes Saaijman (Suzuki), experienced problems and could not finish the race.

“The championships resulted in an excellent first round for the junior and senior off-road motorcycle and quad racing season,” said Elza Thiart-Botes, the spokesperson for South African Dirt Racing.
