POLOKWANE – Netball players gathered at the Polokwane netball courts to be selected for the Limpopo Baobabs netball team recently.
The Baobabs will battle it out against other netball teams from various provinces in the Netball Premier League (NPL) that will be played at the University of Pretoria from May 8 to June 7.
The NPL is Africa’s first semi-professional netball league and all matches are broadcast live on Supersport on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the competition.
Eighteen players were selected to form part of the provincial team and will attend a camp at the Limpopo Academy of Sport to prepare for the NPL games. Cecilia Molekwane, Baobabs head coach, said the selections were well attended.
“There was a a large amount of hopefuls who came to display their talents in the hope of being selected for the team. We have selected young, talented players who are keen to give their all to the team. We have a well-balanced team and we are determined to come back with medals this year,” she said.
Last year the Baobabs did not perform as well as they hoped during the NPL games, but Molekwane is certain that they will do much better this year and win most of their games.
She added that the Baobab netball team consists of young talented players who are hungry for the game. She said the team needs support from the province so that they can do well in the tournament.
The Limpopo Baobabs netball team selection was also attended by the Netball South Africa selections director, Christine du Preez, who assisted Molekwane to find the best players.
