Eager anticipation for Winter Ovals
The annual Winter's Oval Trophy is one of the highlights of the oval track racing calendar and will take place at Polokwane Oval at the city's show grounds on Saturday, July 11.
POLOKWANE – Get ready for some hot action this weekend at the Polokwane showgrounds, as the anual Winter’s Trophy takes place on the Polokwane oval.
A huge field of cars ranging from the Micro Midgets to the thundering V8 sprints will take on each other for the spoils on Saturday.
The Micro Midgets is a 60cc Gokart that has been converted to a Micro sprint car, and drivers as young as 4 years old have the spectatos gasping for breath with their daring driving manoevurs around the track. This also is a stepping stone for some to race in bigger cars when they have enough experience to move up.
One of the best drivers in this class in SA will also make her appierance on Saturday. Megan Kotze is currently leading the National points standings, and will be out to show the spectators her talent. Local drivers will have their hands full to try and keep the trophies at home, and the biggest competition will be in the Stockrods and 1660 classes, with over 18 cars in each class, which will most certainly lead to extreme action packed racing
Racing will start at 4pm and the drift team from Mokopane, Fred Cooper and son’s, will entertain the crowds during interville. Food stals will be available on sale at the track.
