Tough hockey match for Lim
Throughout the past week the South African Country District (SACD) Hockey Championship took place at the Hoërskool Pietersburg's (PHS) astro field.
POLOKWANE – Throughout the past week the South African Country District (SACD) Hockey Championship took place at the Hoërskool Pietersburg’s (PHS) astro field.
With teams from all over South Africa eager to come out on top, the Limpopo hockey team had a tough job ahead of them.
They did not disappoint and played against the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Inland team in the semi-finals.
The teams were evenly matched making for a very exciting game.
Limpopo had the upper hand with a couple of well executed corner shots, but the KZN Inland team goalkeeper was on point and managed to block any attempt at a goal.
Nearing the end of the second half, the KZN Inland was rewarded with a goal from a corner shot, ending the first half with a 1-0 lead.
The KZN Inland team followed this goal with a swift second. Not to be outdone, the Limpopo team saw an opening and retaliated with a goal with only a few minutes left in the second half.
The Limpopo team continued their fierce assault, breaking through the defences of the KZN Inland team.
With the crowd on their feet during the last few seconds of the match as the Limpopo team missed two openings by a fraction, being unable to secure a win.
The KZN Inland team were the victors of the match with a final score of 2-1.
The Limpopo team, however, left the home crowd feeling proud after the close match.
After the match, Cou Pienaar, Limpopo forward and link player, received an invitation to join the Inter Provincial SACD squad.
