POLOKWANE – This year local athletes raised the bar in proving Polokwane can produce some of the top athletes in South Africa.

This year saw Ude Fuchs get the chance of a lifetime when he competed in the Fédération Internationale De Natation (FINA) World Junior Championships in Singapore.

Brian Baragwanath proved to be the best as he claimed his third National Off-road Quad Bike Championship title.

Johan van der Merwe set the South African record when he ran 815 km in the Capital Classic Six Day Circuit Race.

The Fencing National Open was also held in Limpopo for the first time, with fencers being so impressed with the quality of the venue they decided the Limpopo Open will become an annual event.

A local boxer, Frans Ramabolu, made the country proud after winning the WBF Junior Middleweight International title against a Congolese international, Stanic Apuno during a boxing tournament held at Sun Meropa.

The Vodacom Blue Bulls impressed with a great performance at the Peter Mokaba Sport Complex were they beat the Toyota Cheetahs with a 30-13 victory.

A young golf king, Dylan Melville (11), proudly represented South Africa at the Junior Golf Olympics in the US. Dylan qualified for the Olympics after scoring 77 points in all two qualifying rounds during the Olympics qualifying tournament.

A local squash player, Reese Bain, competed in the Penang International Junior Squash Championship in Malaysia. The championship was part of the South African Schools team tour to Hong Kong and Malaysia.
After the pride these local athletes brought to their hometown, we eagerly anticipate seeing them in the sporting headlines again next year.
