Oscar Mavundla has his eyes set on this year's Olympics
POLOKWANE – Oscar Mavundla has his eyes set on this year’s Olympics.
The Seshego-based one lapper (400m) sprinter Mavundla, is ready to work his way up to better his times for the qualifying standards of Rio de Janeiro, and the World Indoor Championships in Partland, US on 17 to 20 March.
With a countdown of 206 days to go to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, he still has time to sanction his mission of taking his personal best of 4:88 seconds lower to book his space to the World Indoor Championships, and to be part of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
His coach, George Mehale, who is one of the best coaches in Limpopo, says he is happy because his powerful one lapper is where he wants him to be at.
“Oscar has everything that is needed, he has worked hard and arrived at the level most national and international athletes are. The only thing he must use is his mind, to tell the body that he is ready for action,” Mehale says.
Mavundla says: “I am not only ready for the Olympics, I am also looking forward to do well when I start my new season”.
