Fresh blood is injected in Baobabs netball team
There has been a change of guard in the provincial netball side, the Baobabs, with the inclusion of some new blood
POLOKWANE – Head coach, Cecilia Molokwane, has selected a team of 17 players who will represent Limpopo during the action-packed Brutal Fruit Premier Netball League.
The most noticeable omission from the squad is former captain, Hilda Mangi Moilwa.
Details of Moilwa’s omission are shrouded in secrecy, with the coach only saying, “it’s a private matter”.
The erstwhile skipper, on the other hand, said: “I won’t be campaigning in the premier national league this year due to health reasons. At this stage, I cannot divulge the details of my health, but maybe at a later stage those details will be made public”.
Molokwane has retained the tallest player in the province and possibly in the country, Rahab Ngobeni.
This could be seen as a bold move hence the goal deficiency that reflected badly for Limpopo at the end of the league season.
Among the trusted lieutenants to return to the Baobabs camp are Josephine Mamabolo, Jackina Sithole, Sylvia Lebelo, Shongile Hlungwane, Vasta Mhlongo and Kgothatso Mofomme.
Molokwane has pulled some class acts from the 2014 brigade to add some livening human drama and experience in the team.
The pair of Dineo Ledwaba and Priesta Mhlongo returns after their absence from last year’s gruelling campaign.
The team welcomes newcomers Estazell Petitt, Rebecca Makgoka, Emily Mathosa, Leah Mkumane, Rivonia Ngobeni, Rirhandzu Mavulwana, Wonga Mthombeni and Modjadji Ramorwalo.
Netball South Africa, the custodians of the national game, is yet to announce a comprehensive fixture program of the 2016 league.
