Top fencing coach shares knowledge
Firebirds Fencing Club members as well as other fencers in the province were in for a treat when well-known fencing coach, Andrei Kvrijnykh, paid a visit to the club.
POLOKWANE – Firebirds Fencing Club members as well as other fencers in the province were in for a treat when well-known fencing coach, Andrei Kvrijnykh, paid a visit to the club.
The Russian-born professional coach started coaching in South Africa in 1998 and in 2000 he revived the TUKS Fencing Club.
During his 16 years of coaching, Kvrijnykh produced several top-class South African fencers and some represented South Africa at the Olympic games.
Recently Kvrijnykh visited Firebirds Fencing Club to give fencers valuable specialised training to help them improve their fencing skills.
They were also given tips on how to improve their fitness.
“We brought him here to help our fencers prepare for the National Fencing Championships that will take place in Cape Town in February,” Firebirds Fencing Club coach, Wallace Goosen said.
