Jannie Bronkhorst finishes first at 2016 Club Championship
The Polokwane Golf Club had their annual club championship last Saturday.
POLOKWANE – Jannie Bronkhorst started with a bogey free four under par 32 to take the early lead after nine holes with Sadie’s Golf Experience junior, Ricardo Loock turning with a one under par 35 chasing hard. Jannie was playing like someone who belonged among the PGA Tour players as he finished with another bogey free four under par 32 to give him a total of 64, 8 under par and an 11 shot lead after round one over Ricardo Loock and Niko Koster who could only answer with scores of three over par 75s. This was Jannie’s tournament to lose and the rest of the field was fighting to see who is going to finish second.
Jannie started his second round where he left off after round one. With a birdie on the fifth and an Eagle on the seventh he was cruising along.
He made his first bogey on the eigth to turn ten under par with Neil Rathman trying to chase with a third 9, 3 under par 33. The race was on for second place as Neil dropped five shots on the last nine and made two birdies to finish with one under par, 71.
Jannie with his total on 11 under par when he came to the last hole of the day enjoyed the victory walk down the 18th with his fourth Club Champ victory. Jannie dropped three shots on the last hole and finished with an 8 under par total, 11 shot victory over Neil Rathman.
On the ladies side it was a one-sided affair with Desi Earle walking away with her 22 club championship win.
This is truly a remarkable achievement and not something one sees everyday. The 2016 Club Championship was a big success and now the race for the Club Match Play Champion starts as the top 32 players in the Club Championship are invited to play Match Play over the next year to decide the champion. Jannie Bronkhorst will be aiming to make it a double header and take the Match Play honors.
