SLC athletes through to national event
Mfumo Mongwe and Lia Revelas of Stanford Lake College (SLC) qualified to go through to the National Athletics Championship that will take place in Bloemfontein from 16 to 19 March.
LIMPOPO – The duo qualified to remain in the nationals after outrunning their opponents during the Limpopo Championships that took place at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
Mfumo won the 200 m boys u/17 with a qualifying time of 0:21:69 while Lia qualified for the nationals after winning the girls u/14 300 m hurdles in a time of 0:46:2.
Stanford Lake College, Marketer, Rona McGaffin, congratulated the duo on their achievement and said she believes they will represent the school and the province well during the National Athletics Championship.
“We would like to wish them all the best for the nationals. They should keep their heads high and do their best. We believe they will leave their mark in Bloemfontein and come home with medals,” said McGaffin.
She also congratulated other SLC athletes who received podium places during the Limpopo Championships.
Athletes who received podium places were:
• Rofhiwa Nevhutalu – third place 100 m hurdles u/15.
• Lia Revelas – second place 90 m hurdles u/15 and first place in 300 m hurdles u/15.
• Mokgadi Mangena – second place high jump u/15.
• Makoma Pilusa – third place high jump u/15.
• Ruben Caroto – second place 100 m u/15.
• Mfumo Mongwe – first place 200 m u/17.
