POLOKWANE – This was announced by the Polokwane Municipality during the media launch at Protea Hotel Ranch Resort last week.
There will be a cycle race on Sunday, 17 April, followed by the road race on Saturday, 30 April.
According to the municipality, these races are meant to encourage the community to embrace an active, healthy lifestyle and general wellness.
Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for roads, storm water and transport, Sinah Tjale spoke on behalf of the mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng during the launch.
“As the City of Stars, we are passionate about overall sports excellence, and the mayoral cycling competition will be in three different categories attracting mouth-watering prizes.
“We are also proud to announce that the cycle race has been elevated to a category A status by Cycling South Africa, which places our competition at the same pedestal with the likes of the Cape Town Cycle Tour in the Western Cape, the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge in Gauteng, Amashovashova Cycle Race in KwaZulu-Natal; and will become known as the multimodal hallmark event of the year in the country,” said Tjale.
Registration to the events is open to everyone. Entries close 13 April 2016 at 23:00.
