Top world class gymnasts
Zanis Gymnastics Academy was recently one of only six clubs in South Africa that was invited to take join the International Association of Independent Clubs (IAIGC).
POLOKWANE – The IAICC will host a World Club Championship in the United States in June and the qualifying leg for the South African Clubs took place at the the Centurion Gymnastics Club in Gauteng from 15 to 16 April.
The Team Competition and Individual Finals took place on Friday. The Zanis Bronze Team won the overall third place and was awarded bronze medals and received their first IAIGC banner.
Leandre du Preez performed exceptionally well by being awarded overall second place winner in her age group.
Seven of the eight Zanis girls qualified in the top five places for apparatus finals the Saturday and received nine medals, four gold medals and five bronze medals.
Cleo-Anne Manamela was the Zanis top performer during the apparatus finals, where she received two gold medals on the floor and beam items.
The bronze apparatus medals were claimed by Xanri Steenkamp in floor and beam, Cailin Menzies in beam, Chere Lee Vos in beam and Lara Prenzler in floor.
The Zanis gymnasts performed exceptionally well and qualified to take part in he World Club Championships but due to the high cost of almost R40 000 per gymnast to compete in the championship, they decided to withdraw and save up for the next championship.
Zanis Gymnastics Academy head coach, Zani Prinsloo, congratulated all the gymnasts on their remarkable performances during the championship. “The Zanis gymnasts did an awesome job competing at their first IAIGC.
“They all looked stunning in their specially designed leotards and the hours of training and hard work was evident in their performances and it really paid off.
“All glory to God for the talent He gives us and the drive we have to do our best,” she said.
