Karatekas bring home gold
Karatekas from JKA Karate Club brought home a big haul of medals after competing at the South African JKA Karate Style championship that took place in Johannesburg recently.
POLOKWANE – The two-day event saw JKA Karate Club warriors claim twelve medals. The club was represented by 15 fighters with eight making it to the podium.
According to Sensei Piet Janse van Rensburg, JKA Karate Club instructor, all the karatekas did exceptionally well during the championship and he is happy with the results.
“More than 2 000 fighters competed in this tournament and only the best fighters got the chance to stand on the podium. Only the top warriors from all the nine provinces could compete,” said Janse van Rensburg.
He further said four karate instructors from the club were selected to be referees for this championship. The instructors who were selected are himself, Sensei Franci Voster, Sensei Chris Janse van Rensburg and Sensei Eliphus Ntata.
Janse van Rensburg said not everyone can become a referee in such a big tournament. He said karate instructors have to qualify under Karate South Africa (KSA) in order to become a referee and that he is delighted that four instructors from the club were identified and selected by KSA.
Janse van Rensburg said fighters who earned medals were also awarded national colours. “We are preparing for the all styles friendly competition expected to take place in August. The dates and venues for this challenge are still to be confirmed,” he explained.
