Star athlete bags 3 medals at championship

Top athlete, Oscar Mavhunda made the city proud when he competed in the eighth Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) Games in Johannesburg.

POLOKWANE – Between 26 June and 2 July, Oscar competed in the 200 m, 400 m and 4×400 m relay.

Oscar finished the 200 m race third in 21,27 seconds, breaking his personal record. He completed the 400 m race in 47,16 seconds, earning him a second place. The 4×400 m relay team completed their race in 3,13 seconds, earning them second place.

“I gained a lot of experience and thoroughly enjoyed the competition. Only the best compete at this level so I am quite pleased that I managed to make it to the podium a few times,” said Oscar.

He added that because the competition is so big and so many well known athletes competed, his focus was on improving his times and not winning his races.

“The competition takes place every two years. I would like to compete in the next one and hopefully break my personal records. Right now I’m training for a local competition taking place on 15 October,” Oscar explained.
