Strokes of fun in the pool for Anelda

For Anelda Oberholzer, one of the most fulfilling experiences is when she sees how people gain their confidence in the water after she has spent hours helping them learn how to swim.

POLOKWANE – Oberholzer has always dreamt of joining her mother, Lida Roets, as a swimming instructor and after her other passion for working with horses had to take a back seat due to unforeseen circumstances and her dream to become a swimming instructor was sped up.

“It is great fun to see how everyone of any age can learn the joys of swimming with enough patience. It is an indescribable feeling to see someone grow confident in their abilities and trust these newly learned abilities to begin swimming. Seeing the absolute bliss they experience when they learn to fully enjoy the freedom of swimming is what makes everything worthwhile for me,” she said.

Her typical day starts out from 10:00 in the morning to 18:00 in the evening during which time she teaches people ranging from toddlers to adults how to swim.

“One of the best things about life for me is the opportunity to share in the joy of others. There is nothing better and I believe I am where I need to be to make a difference.”

Anelda added she feels more people, especially those from rural areas, should learn how to swim.

“People and helping others is my passion and I find people and their stories very interesting. This is another reason I love what I do as it affords me the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and learn to love and appreciate them for who they are. I believe someone in my line of work should possess these traits to make a success of the kind of work I do,” she said.

She encourages people to begin taking swimming lessons, even if they have a fear for water as she believes any fear can be overcome.
