“Limpopo has an abundance of boxing talent, as was evident by producing South Africa’s only six-time world champion, Cassius Baloyi. Boxing in Limpopo entered a slump which prompted me to found LBP in 2013 to give aspiring young boxers a platform to showcase their skills. I am the first person in Limpopo to produce a female boxing champion in Lizbeth Lady Gun Sibanda, who competes in the flyweight category,” he told Review.
Phathutshedzo, who is recognised in the boxing fraternity as one of the youngest boxing promoters in Africa, has produced numerous provincial, national and international fighters for the ring.
This year he made history in boxing circles when he hosted a boxing tournament in Seshego with boxers representing all four international bodies; International Boxing Organization (IBO), World Boxing Organization (WBO), World Boxing Association (WBA) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) under one roof.
Earlier this year in October LBP hosted the IBF Intercontinental welterweight fight for its boxer and title defender, Tsiko Cruel Junior Mulovhedzi, in Seshego. Even though his boxer lost, Phathutshedzo’s drive and passion for boxing promises a bright future for the sport and Limpopo making its mark.
