Seshego soccer player chasing the dream of stardom

Steven Baloyi (20) is a young soccer player from Seshego who has dreams of one day becoming a superstar and making his parents proud.

POLOKWANE – He says growing up in a neighborhood where most youth get into varying degrees of trouble,  soccer has been a lifesaver for him. “It is a sport that develops the way you think about things not just on the sport field but in life itself,” he says.

He says that her started playing soccer from a very young age and took any and every opportunity to further his talent. He now plays left wing for the Hungry Lions Club and hopes to one day play for the bigger teams. “I pray that an agent will recognise my talent and help me make my dream of playing for the bigger teams and maybe even for Bafana Bafana, a reality.”

He just completed his supplementary exams and is still awaiting his results and then he is looking into going to the police service or defense force. “My passion for serving and making a difference in my community comes from my love of soccer, a sport that teaches you the value of life,” he says.

He adds that besides from playing and practicing with his team, he also spends hours training and developing his skills. He believes soccer is a way out for young people in rural areas who are involved in drugs and criminal activities and would like to see the development of the sport in these areas.
