Grassroots development thanks to former Chiefs defender
If everything goes according to plan, Molekwane hopes to develop an academy where players over the age of 15 will be able to board.
POLOKWANE – Former Kaizer Chiefs defender, Tlou Molekwane, wants to shape the future of young up-and-coming football stars in Polokwane through his Grassroots Football Programme.
The programme was launched at Noordelikes Rugby Club in Ladanna and is aimed at children between the age of six and 15, who will be taught tactical aspects of the game, the basics of football, teamwork as well as social skills.
Molekwane told BONUS he noticed that children who had too much free time on their hands, ended up being exposed to things that posed a danger to them. “The programme will keep them busy so they do not have time to do other things. The target is to have 40 children who will be grouped according to their age. About 18 children were at the launch and each got a T-shirt and a soccer ball,” he said.
If everything goes according to plan, Molekwane hopes to develop an academy where players over the age of 15 will be able to board. “These players will also get a chance to play with prominent football clubs once they are ready. This is an opportunity parents should seize for their kids.” He extended his gratitude to the parents who showed support towards the programme, saying he received a positive response to the programme.
