Black Leopards on the hunt for more points
Leopards face Cape Town City on 20 January and they hope to continue their winning streak on the field.
LIMPOPO – Black Leopards came up trumps against an inconsistent Orlando Pirates, when the two faced off at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday.
Leopards beat Pirates 2-0 in their DStv Premiership encounter to collect three points and move out of the relegation zone and into 14th place.
Pirates beat Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 3-0 at the same venue last Wednesday, however, they could not match their same intensity against Leopards.
Leopards took the game to the visitors from the word go in search of an early goal, but despite creating a lot of scoring opportunities, they lacked finishing in the final third of the field.
In the 21st minute Pirates’ Innocent Maela almost opened the scoring for the visitors when he launched a header from inside the box, just for it to go wide.
Maela did however find the back of the net in the 28th minute, when he scored an own goal, which gave Leopards a 1-0 lead.
Leopards doubled their lead six minutes before half-time when Rodrick Kabwe beat Prates’ goalkeeper, Wayne Sandilands.
Pirates pushed forward for a goal in the second half but it was not to be.
Leopards face Cape Town City at 17:00 today (20 January) as they hope to continue their winning streak on the pitch.
Leopards coach, Dylan Kerr, is excited by the prospect of playing well in their previous match.
“It would be great to win the match because I believe that is the best thing that can happen for any team. We have focused on attacking football and will go out and play attacking football.
“We have conceded some late goals but we want to go and score goals. We expect a hard game as City is a closed book,” said Kerr.
He believes Leopards have what it takes to win the match.
“We had an opportunity to manage the team after having a bit of fixture congestion before the break.
“The Thohoyandou Stadium is our usual hunting ground as we have done more than well in our previous matches at home,” added Kerr.
