Impalas happy to be back on the cricket pitch

The Polokwane-based team played a friendly match against KwaZulu-Natal Inland cricket team at a secured environment at Mangaung Oval on 22 February.

POLOKWANE – The head coach of Limpopo Impala Cricket team, Israel Hlengani, said they are happy about the return of cricket matches.

The Polokwane-based team played a friendly match against KwaZulu-Natal Inland cricket team at a secured environment at Mangaung Oval on 22 February.

The batting order from KwaZulu-Natal Inland showed class and tenacity. They accumulated 168 runs before they were balled out.

The Impalas amassed 48 runs for the loss of three wickets, however, the match was called-off due to inclement weather.

Hlengani said even the players were happy to get back into action after a long lay-off due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “The match was important for us. We wanted to play so that we can see the progress of players, especially the youngsters. They were happy to play after such a long break and we look forward to other matches.”

He added that they miss playing in front of their fans. “It is different playing in a bio secured environment. Cricket is better when we are able to play for the fans and the people who come to support the teams. We hope things will return to normal soon.”
