Bowls players win big at Lim singles champs
Bowls players rolled in from all over to compete in the Limpopo Bowls Singles 2021 competition in Polokwane on October 24.
POLOKWANE – Lyn Lambert, Faan Rossouw, Les Cook, Sheila Sasser, Zane Fanie and Joan Bisset from Polokwane, Duiwelskloof, Tzaneen and Warmbad Bowls Club were announced as the winners of the competition.
Cook and Lambert represented the Polokwane Bowls Club and won the men’s and ladies’ categories respectively.
Bisset from Tzaneen Bowls Club won the ladies’ novice category while Rossouw from Warmbad Bowls Club walked away with the men’s veterans title. Sasser and Fanie emerged victorious in the men’s and ladies’ open categories.
Polokwane Bowls Club secretary Evelyn Cloete congratulated the winners and said all players performed well in the competition. “It was a tough and competitive event which became a success. We had 33 novices on the day and they did well. We never had 33 novices in the past, it was a huge number compared to the previous years and we would like to surpass the figure next year.”
She also said they will have Limpopo trials at Polokwane Bowls Club on November 6 and 7 to select players who will represent the province at the national bowls event penciled for March next year. “All bowls players are invited. We will be playing against almost all the teams from nine provinces in the country and we want to have a strong team.”
