Pietersburg road runners gear up for Loskop Marathon
The point to point event is a firm favourite on the running calendar, starting in Middelburg and finishing at Loskopdam.
POLOKWANE – Pietersburg Road Runners will send a group of 13 runners to the Loskop Marathon set for May 6 in Mpumalanga.
The club will be represented by Stella Jonker, Corine vd Merwe, Jan du Plessis, Jean-Mari Williams, Jolanda du Plessis, Magriet Jacobs, Zelda Vorster, Colinda Potgieter, Ernest Rossouw, Imelda van der Westhuizen, Johan van der Merwe, Lize-Marie Opperman and Marlyn Brown.
The chairperson of the club, Colinda Potgieter, said the athletes will represent the club well.
“We have been training hard and believe we will perform exceptionally.”
The point to point event is a firm favourite on the running calendar, starting in Middelburg and finishing at Loskopdam.
The event series also comprises the Loskop Wild Challenge 21.1km and the 4.9km Save the Rhino – Fun Run.
“The marathon is a Comrades qualifier and most of our athletes will be using this as part of their preparations.”
They are also proud of nine of their athletes who participated in the TRAC N4 Marathon, held in Watervalboven on April 21.
Johan van der Merwe took the 13th position in the 42.2km in a time of 3:18,54; Lize-Marie Opperman improved her personal best time in the marathon when she completed the race in 03:43, finishing twelfth.
Jean-Marie Williams ran only her second marathon and completed it in a time of 3:53 in the open category.
The best performer from the club on the day was Magriet Jacobs, a walker who finished the 21.1km in a time of 2:28.
She was the second walker overall to cross the line and it also was only her second attempt on the distance since Magriet is actually a 10km athlete.
