Polokwane City FC congratulated on PSL promotion
Sport Arts and Culture MEC Nakedi Kekana-Sibanda said the promotion will motivate aspiring soccer players in the country to join teams that ply their trade at the highest peak of competitions.
POLOKWANE – The Limpopo MEC for Sport Arts and Culture Nakedi Kekana-Sibanda congratulated Polokwane City Football Club for gaining promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Sunday (May 14).
City campaigned in the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the 2022/2023 football season and won the championship with 57 points.
The club will join local teams Marumo Gallants and Sekhukhune United who are campaigning in the elite league.
”This is a milestone for the team, and the province as a whole. We are proud of the team and through this promotion, more social cohesion activities will come alive and it will also expand the economic activities of the city and the entire province,” Kekana said.
She added that as more teams from Limpopo gain promotion to the ultimate league in the country, young soccer stars will be encouraged to join teams that ply their trade at the highest peak of competitions.
The team will be playing 15 home games at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex next season and Polokwane Mayor John Mpe said they welcome the team at their facilities.
“We congratulate City for their hard work, dedication and elevation into the Premier Soccer League. Their professional conduct and work ethic throughout the season has paid dividends and will see them continuing to compete with their peers in the elite league. They need our support so that they can sustain their PSL status and record more glory.”
He added that as the sporting capital of the province, the Polokwane Municipality continues to improve its sporting infrastructure including those in Mankweng and Seshego to ensure more professionalism in its efforts to meet PSL standards.
