Limpopo equestrians honoured at award ceremony

Limpopo was honoured to send some youth riders to the 2023 South African Junior and Pony Rider Championships at Kyalami Equestrian Park in July this year.

POLOKWANE – South African Show Jumping (SASJ) Limpopo hosted an award ceremony at Fusion Boutique Hotel in Polokwane recently, to congratulate and acknowledge Limpopo equestrian riders.

SASJ Limpopo represents children, junior and adult riders from Limpopo in the showjumping discipline of Equestrian Sport.

Limpopo was honoured to send some youth riders to the 2023 South African Junior and Pony Rider Championships at Kyalami Equestrian Park in July this year.

Retha van der Merwe, the chairperson of the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) Limpopo said the awards ceremony centred around these junior riders as well as other junior and adult riders that competed at various provincial and national equestrian shows in 2023.

“The youth riders did exceptionally well at the championships: Isabel Joubert, Wilrike Nel, Chicago Ferriera, Phillip du Plessis, Lyandi van der Merwe and Azel Vorster all did extremely well.”

The following awards were awarded to SASJ riders as selected on their performance in 2023:

Victrix Ludorum was awarded to Azel Vorster for her achievements at the youth championship; up and coming award was awarded to Isabel Fourie as a young rider with the most points; newcomer award awarded to Chicago Ferreira as a new rider to Limpopo and having outstanding achievements; commitment award awarded to Tamaryn Adams as a rider who competed in the most shows and moved up in levels; fellowship award was awarded to Lyandi van der Merwe for outstanding support and ethics; team award to Lune Wessels for participating; and the showjumper of the year was Christie Els for her provincial and national rankings in 2023.
