40 medals for LPKA karatekas at nationals

With a total of 27 students participating in various disciplines, LPKA managed to take home 20 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 10 bronze.

POLOKWANE – Karatekas of the Limpopo Karate Academy (LPKA) bagged 40 medals at the Full Contact Martial Arts Association’s (FCMA) national championship that was held in Kempton Park at the indoor sports centre on March 1-2, with a total of 250 students participating in various disciplines including kata, kumite and unison kata.

LPKA had 27 students representing the Limpopo team and they managed to take home 20 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 10 bronze.

The top performer from the club was senpai Angelique Bronkhorst who won three golds and a silver medal.

Sensei Pieter Bronkhorst expressed pride in all the students who participated in the championship.

“They worked hard in the past few months. Our club goes from strength to strength as we are building karate in the province.”

Bronkhorst added that the Protea team will be announced on March 15 and that he is confident that some of his students will be selected to participate in the World Martial Arts Organisation (WMO) World Championships set to take place in Benalmadena, Spain on November 3-7.
