Basel FC crowned Safa Regional League Champ of Champs

Premier Ramathuba praised Safa Vhembe for nurturing young talent and Basel FC aims for success in the next playoffs.

LIMPOPO – Basel FC was crowned the Safa Regional League Champ of Champs after defeating Berea FC 1-0 in the final match at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.

The event was attended by Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, MEC of Social Development Florence Radzilani, MEC of Ledet Tshireke Matibe, ANC provincial secretary Reuben Madadzhe, and mayors from all four municipalities in Vhembe.

Ramathuba stressed the importance of identifying and nurturing future soccer stars at grassroots level and praised Safa Vhembe for their efforts in recognising the talent of the region’s youth, encouraging them to aspire to join bigger teams.

Ramathuba also urged young people to avoid drugs, alcohol, and criminal activities, stating that a law-abiding youth would positively impact the country’s economy and attract investors.

“I believe soccer coaches in the country should visit our areas to scout talent, as we have excellent players here,” she added.

Ramathuba expressed confidence that some of the young players would soon progress to the top league.

FC Basel coach Vhutshilo Makhado, expressed confidence ahead of the upcoming ABC Motsepe provincial playoffs in Sekhukhune, where they will compete against four other district winners.

“We are ready for the provincial playoffs. Our goal is to represent Vhembe and qualify for the ABC Motsepe League,” he said.

Makhado acknowledged the challenges they faced to reach this stage, crediting the commitment from the club’s management, technical team, fans, and players.

Basel FC received R60 000, a trophy, gold medals, and two soccer kits for their victory. Runners-up Berea FC collected R30 000, silver medals, and two soccer kits.

The semi-finalists, Tshikhwani Stone Breakers and Mashamba Soccer Academy, each received R20 000 and a soccer kit.
