Provincial Limpopo fencing championship set for Polokwane

The Limpopo Fencing Association hosts a 2-day championship featuring 60 fencers in preparation for the Cape Town Fencing Championship.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Fencing Association will host a two-day fencing championship in Polokwane on July 20 and 21.

Expected at the championship are 60 junior and senior fencers from various clubs in the province.

“The championship is part of the preparations for the Cape Town Fencing Championship which will take place in August. The team that will represent us will include fencers form the University of Limpopo, Ditlanatso Fencing Project and Sello Maduma Fencing Academy,” Renuka Ramroop, chairperson of Limpopo Fencing Association said.

Renuka stressed that the national event fencers will be able to improve their rankings.

“We are happy with the growth of the sport in the province. We are taking 63 fencers to the national championship which will be the biggest numbers we are taking to the national event in the history of the association. The team will be accompanied by Joseph Maluleke and Phathu Mashiane who are the coaches of the provincial team,” she concluded.
