LIMPOPO – The u/16 netball team from Tshiawelo High School returned as proud runners-up in the Botho division from the SA Netball School Championships, held at Florida High Secondary School from July 19-20.

The tournament is played in two streams, Ubuntu and Botho, to ensure that all schools have an equal shot at glory.

The team’s coach, Lemmie Masia expressed immense pride in the team’s performance.

“We knew we would be one of the top teams. We have a winning formula, which is practice, practice, and practice!”

She commented on the team’s long and dedicated preparation, which she said played a crucial role in their success.

“Finishing as runners-up in the Botho stream did not come as a surprise. We are celebrating the success that has come through hard work,” she added.

Masia also spoke of the importance of role models for young athletes.

“We saw the young girls’ talent and strength, and we are touched and moved by their abilities and capabilities as netball players.”

Azwindini Singo, also from the school, praised the girls’ talent displayed during the selection games.

She called on parents to provide moral support to the selected girls, encouraging them to fully participate and enjoy the benefits of being in the national netball squad.

She said it was noteworthy that two u/17 players, Mukundi Tseli and Precious Matika, were recognised as the best players in their division.
