Mpheni Defenders advance with hard-fought win
Mpheni Defenders defeat Munaca FC and advance in the Safa Limpopo ABC Motsepe Preliminary Nedbank Cup.
LIMPOPO – Mpheni Defenders secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Munaca FC in their Safa Limpopo ABC Motsepe Preliminary Nedbank Cup match at Malamulele Stadium on Sunday.
Munaca struggled offensively in the first half, focusing on defence and allowing their opponents to dominate possession.
The first booking came in the 30th minute when Khathutshelo Nemaguvhuni of Munaca was shown a yellow card for a dangerous tackle.
Their best chance in the first half came in the 34th minute, with Thembi Nevhulamba shooting wide from close range after breaking free on the left flank.
George Setjie also came close to scoring in the 36th minute, but his shot missed the post by centimetres.
The decisive moment of the match came in the 40th minute when Rau Rankoko netted the only goal, putting Mpheni Defenders in the lead.
Late in the game, Joshua Netshilindi of Munaca almost equalised, but his ground cutter hit the woodwork, leaving fans disappointed.
