Sapa Yopa MCC Golf Day tees off in Polokwane
The Sapa Yopa MCC Golf Day drew 88 golfers to the Polokwane Golf Club, kicking off the club's 16th annual rally in style.
POLOKWANE – Golfers gathered at the Polokwane Golf Club recently for the highly anticipated Sapa Yopa MCC Golf Day, an event that set the tone for the club’s 16th annual rally. The day saw a total of 88 golfers from various teams around Polokwane competing on a 16-hole course.
Sapa Yopa MCC president, Antonio Pico Santana Martins, took the first tee off and encouraged fellow golfers to play their best. Among the competitors, Jaco de Villiers emerged as the winner of the Sapa Yopa Golf Day.
Mpho Matsi took home the prize for the longest drive in the men’s category, while Nola Peceur claimed the longest drive in the women’s category.
Polokwane golf club president, Joas Legodi, also participated in the event, along with the youngest golfer, 11-year-old Senzo Sebokedi, who impressed everyone by giving the seasoned golfers a run for their money.
The golf day, organised by Sarel Nong, marked the official opening of the Sapa Yopa Rally and was also a way to express gratitude to the sponsors.
“We hosted participants from as far as Namibia. Sapa Yopa MCC turns 16 this year, and in honour of the late founding president Johz Mamabolo, we decided to introduce something new, a golf day. This event blends golf with biking, and we believe it will continue to grow,” said Nong.
Sapa Yopa MCC has partnered with the Mapungubwe Festival for nearly nine years, and every year, the club kicks off the festival with this exciting event in Polokwane.
Nong expressed his gratitude to the golfers who participated, not only for making the golf day a memorable occasion but also for helping raise money for charity. “The golfers’ support is something we truly appreciate, and it’s something we can’t thank them enough for. This event has shown the spirit of generosity and community,” he added.
