Former Badgers coach Gurshwin Rabie to lead the Limpopo Impala’s

Gurshwin Rabie has been appointed the head coach of the Limpopo Impala senior men's team, bringing proven success and a bold vision ahead of the 2025/26 season.

POLOKWANE – Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC) recently appointed Gurshwin Rabie as their new head coach, effective from August 1, ahead of the 2025/26 domestic season.

LIC CEO John Openshaw told Polokwane Observer the appointment marks a key step in shaping the future of cricket in the province.

“Rabie is a seasoned coach with a proven track record of developing talent and leading teams to success. His appointment is a significant coup for LIC, and we look forward to working with him,” he said.

He added that the union is thrilled to welcome Rabie to the LIC family.

“His experience and passion for the game will be invaluable in helping us meet our objectives and nurturing the next generation of cricketers in Limpopo.”

Rabie, who brings a wealth of experience to the post, said he is honoured by the opportunity.

“I’m excited to work with the talented players in the province and contribute to the growth of the game in the region.”

Born and raised in Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape, Rabie previously coached Western Cape u/19 Academy teams, the Cobras Cubs, the Colts and the Garden Route Badgers.

He has also served as head coach and assistant coach of professional teams.

As a player, Rabie turned out for Western Province, Cape Cobras, South Western Districts and the Warriors.

He coached the 2021 Cubs champions, the 2020 Colts champions, and was assistant coach for the CSA 50-over champions in 2023.

“It’s an absolute privilege to coach at LIC. My plan is to make LIC’s men’s team a more competitive force in CSA structures, win silverware, and produce national-level talent,” he said.

His advice to aspiring players: “Have a goal-driven mindset. Wake up every day trying to achieve that goal. Stay humble in success and defeat, stay positive, and have fun chasing your dream”.

He concluded by calling for provincial support. “LIC is on the verge of something great. We need the whole of Limpopo to rally behind this team to achieve our goals.”
