Leopards struggle in season opener

Black Leopards suffered a defeat to Casric Stars in their Motsepe Foundation Championship opener after fielding only 10 players.

LIMPOPO – Black Leopards faced a challenging start to their Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday, suffering a 3-0 defeat to Casric Stars. The match, originally scheduled for 15:00, was delayed by an hour due to disputes over player registration cards.

Leopards took to the field with only 10 players, including their goalkeeper, captain Thendo Mukumela, who stepped in between the posts due to the shortage of players. With no substitutes available, the team struggled to compete effectively against a full-strength Casric Stars side.

Casric Stars’ goals came from Decide Chauke, Thabang Semache, and Thobani Mngomezulu, securing a comfortable victory.

The match also highlighted off-field challenges for the Leopards. Following the purchase of Cape Town All Stars’ status two years ago, former Stars players who were owed payments reportedly reported the club to Fifa, resulting in a transfer ban.
