Stars crush Try Again in Vhembe league replay

Makhitha Oscar Stars beat Madombidzha Try Again 3-1 in a Safa Vhembe league replay after the original match was abandoned due to assault.

LIMPOPO – Makhita Oscar Stars were too strong for Madombidzha Try Again when they beat them 3-1 in the Safa Vhembe Hollywood League match played at Ravele Grounds on Sunday.

The initial match between the two teams ended with 10 minutes remaining after Stars scored their second goal, leading to the abandonment of the game on January 17.

The case was later taken to a disciplinary hearing, where the committee ordered that the match be replayed. The two teams appeared before the disciplinary committee in March.

Makhitha Oscar Stars were fined R6 000 for assaulting a Madombidzha Try Again player after scoring the second goal, which led to the abandonment of the match.

The fine must be paid within 30 working days.

Madombidzha Try Again pleaded guilty and was fined R3 000 for failing to provide adequate security at their home venue during their match against Stars.

The disciplinary committee also ordered that the match be replayed at a neutral venue, which was subsequently played at Ravele Grounds.

Referee Khumbelo Rakhavha, who officiated the match between Madombidzha Try Again and Makhitha Oscar Stars, was suspended for six months for failing to issue a red card to Stars manager Thusani Luvhengo, who reportedly assaulted Try Again player Phindulo Mabasa and kicked the ball away from the centre line.

Following the victory, Makhitha Oscar Stars moved from third position to second place on the log, now sitting five points behind the current log leaders Ramantsha Blackpool, who remain unbeaten this season.
