Polokwane officials tackle Comrades

Polokwane Municipality officials took on the 2026 Comrades Marathon, pushing through the 90km from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.

POLOKWANE – Members of the Polokwane Municipality hit the road on Sunday, joining thousands of runners in the 2026 Comrades Marathon.

The annual ultramarathon, which ran approximately 85.7km between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, is widely regarded as one of the world’s toughest foot races.

How the Polokwane contingent fared

Tommy Mabuela began at a brisk pace of 5:55/km through Pinetown before settling into a more sustainable rhythm. After 4h42 minutes, he had covered 43.25km, averaging 6:37/km.

Reginald Ramporo started steadily at 7:12/km for the first 5.5km before picking up speed through Pinetown at 5:58/km. He maintained a disciplined pace between 6:27 and 7:06/km through the tougher sections, averaging 6:45/km overall.

Patience Mboweni started at 5:15 AM and maintained a consistent pace through Westville, Pinetown, Kloof and Winston Park. She reached Drummond after more than five hours on the road.

Johannes Karos Mosehla clocked 6:04/km in the early stages, cruising through Westville and Pinetown before tackling the challenging hills of Kloof. After 5 hours and 29 minutes, he had covered over 40km at an average pace of 7:17/km.

Thabana Mokgohloa started at 5:30 AM and settled quickly into a steady rhythm. By Drummond, he had spent over five hours on the road, maintaining a 7:07/km average with more than 45km still ahead.

Steve Moya set off at 5:15 AM with a simple plan: keep moving forward. At the time of the update, he had clocked 5 hours and 50 minutes, with just over 39km remaining.

Matsiri Mokgokong started at 5:15 AM and tackled the famous hills with determination. After nearly six hours on the road, he had covered more than 45km at a pace of 7:02/km.

Lucas Tisane began at 5:00 AM and worked his way through Westville and Pinetown before facing the race’s most demanding climbs. After more than six hours, he had covered over 42km.

Mokgadi Kola.

Mokgadi Kola started at 5:30 AM and showed grit through Westville, Pinetown, Kloof and Drummond. After more than six hours on the road, she had covered over 43km and was still pushing forward.

The last update from the municipality showed that Lucas Bopape, who had reached Drummond in 4h45min, completed the 2026 Comrades Marathon. He maintained a steady pace throughout and crossed the finish line in Pietermaritzburg with no major incidents.
