POLOKWANE – Stanford Lake College was recently invited as one of the top mountain biking schools in Limpopo to compete at the national championships held at Bekker High School from 20 to 22 September.
The top 50 schools from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia were present at this prestigious event.
The inter-schools finals took place on Saturday, September 21. A very technical and tough course was set up for this race. The event was on the same standard as the UCI world and Olympic championships and riders had to complete a pre-determined amount of laps of this testing four kilometre course, depending on their age groups.
The riders from Stanford Lake College did extremely well. Tristan Schoeman finished 30th in the sub-youth boys u/14 category.
Kirsten Eastes finished 10th in the sub youth girls u/14 and Anke Vaughn 15th in the same race.
Sarah Pogrund finished 17th in the youth girls u/15 and u/16 event and Toni Lacey 22nd.
On Sunday, the inter-provincial race was held with the best riders from eight provinces competing in this event. “Thank you very much to Anatomic Gear for the sponsorship. Well done to all our riders. We are very proud of you. It was an honour for Stanford Lake to be invited.” said Neil Haaroff, director of the outdoor centre at Stanford Lake College.
