Independent schools put their best feet forward
The independent schools athletics meeting took place at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last Thursday.
POLOKWANE – The independent schools athletics meeting took place at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last Thursday.
The schools that participated were Curro Heuwelkruin, Mitchell House College, Pepps Polokwane College, Jabez Christian School, Eagle’s Nest Christian School and Stanford Lake College.
Heuwelkruin were the overall winners, with Stanford Lake College second and Pepps in third place. This was the first time Heuwelkruin won. Remoneiloe Phasha from Heuwelkruin received the junior Victrix Ludorum trophy, while Stanford Lake College’s Mfumo Mongwe received the junior Victor Ludorum trophy. Ilanie Heystek from Heuwelkruin was awarded the senior Victrix Ludorum trophy and Maredi Mphahlele from Pepps was awarded the senior Victor Ludorum trophy.
There were 22 records that were set on the day, which included the following by Heuwelkruin athletes:
• Ilanie Heystek – 400 m for girls u/16 in a time of 63,8 seconds, 200 m in 26 seconds, 100 m hurdles in 15,6 seconds and high jump for girls u/16 with a height of 1.5 m.
• Remoneiloe Phasa – 200 m for girls u/14 in a time of 26,8 seconds and 100 m in a time of 12,8 seconds.
• Nicole Blaunt – 400 m for girls u/14 in a time of 66,1 seconds.
• Stefan Nel – javelin for boys u/16 with a distance of 53,36m.
• Johan Grobler – shot put for boys u/19 with a distance of 13,39m.
• Nicole Botha – 200 m for girls u/19 in a time of 27,8 seconds and 100 m in a time of 13,1 seconds.
• Jan Heystek – 200 m for boys u/19 in a time of 22,2 seconds and 100 m in a time of 10,69 seconds.
• Minette Snyman – 200 m for girls u/17 in a time of 26,6 seconds and 100 m in a time of 12,9 seconds.
• Christopher de Jager – shot put for boys u/16 with a distance of 11,92 m.
• Aiden Vermaak – discuss for boys u/19 with a distance of 39,63 m.
• Ruben Nieuwoudt – 800 m for boys u/15 in a time of 02:21,4 seconds.
• Kayla Steyn – 800 m for girls u/15 in a time of 02:39,8 seconds.
• Zanelle Swart – 800 m for girls u/14 in a time of 02:46,4 seconds.
• Arno Horn – javelin for boys u/15 with a distance of 46,10 m.
