School of Excellence had to dig deep to edge Nubian Kings FC 3-2 during the finals of the play-offs, which were held at the Peter Mokaba rugby stadium on Sunday.
On their way to the final, School of Excellence, which is under the tutelage of Hendrick Mukwevho, beat Peace United 1-0 before outclassing the Greenside-based Gladiators FC with a 4-0 score line.
Polokwane Local Football Association (Polfa) chairperson, Jacky Mogashoa said the tournament would comprise of eight junior clubs from Mankweng and two teams each from the association’s four clusters.
He said the tournament was aimed at developing young talent and empowering team owners to continue unearthing raw talent.
“We have the best interest of our young stars at heart and when we host competitive tournaments of this nature, it becomes easier for provincial coaches to pick the cream of the crop during selection.
“We have the best talent in the province and it is for us as custodians of football development to unearth the talent and hone the skills of our future stars,” Mogashoa said.
Limpopo School of Excellence will be playing in their first competitive tournament of the year and it remains to be seen if the football academy, which has been touted as the best in the province has what it takes to clinch the championships.
The Limpopo Sport School of Excellence u/15 team was crowned the champions of the Vodacom Cup and Sportman’s Warehouse Tournament in November 2013.
