SLC riders shine at championships
Hoërskool Louis Trichardt and Stanford Lake College (SLC) represented Limpopo at the Spur Schools' MTB National Mountain Bike Championships
POLOKWANE – The Spur Schools’ MTB National Mountain Bike Championships was held at Hoërskool Bekker in the North West from October 3 to 5.
Hoërskool Louis Trichardt and Stanford Lake College (SLC) represented Limpopo.
Stanford Lake College’s riders were Abigail Joubert (u/19), Lachlan Truesdale and Rebecca Desmet (u/16), Kirsten Eastes and Bryce Reed and Matthew Wilkinson (u/15).
During the inter-schools finals, riders competed to accumulate points for their schools. There was also a fun relay, with schools entering teams of five riders, each doing one lap.
Due to their being a small team, Stanford Lake College could not compete in the relay, but Joubert managed 16th place overall, while Eates came in seventh place.
At the inter-provincial race, the riders competed in their provincial colours.
All the Stanford Lake College riders managed to finish in the top 40 in their respective age groups, with Eastes finishing in seventh place again.
According to Rona McGaffin, Stanford Lake College marketer, the riders did well. “We are proud of our team for holding the Stanford name high during the 2014 MTB season. The riders did their best and they made us proud,” said McGaffin.
