Northern Academy’s historic sports day
The primary and college winter sports teams of Curro Northern Academy competed on Saturday March 21 in the Curro regional tournament in Randburg.
POLOKWANE – The primary and college winter sports teams of Curro Northern Academy competed on Saturday March 21 in the Curro regional tournament in Randburg.
The netball teams gave a good reckoning of themselves with some excellent results.
The event was also a bit of history in the making for Curro Northern Academy. For the first time in the school’s 21-year existence, Northern Academy now offers rugby as a sports activity and entered the Curro regionals with two seven-a-side rugby teams which came back with some outstanding first time results. The schools Curro Northern Academy competed against were Curro Thatchfield, Curro Aurora, Curro Krugersdorp, Curro Waterstone and Curro Bloemfontein.
Netball results:
• u/18 – Second place overall with players Portia Sambo, Rebecca Maila, Tebogo Senoamadi and Mahuba Mongano selected for the Curro regional team that will compete at the Curro national event on June 25 and 26 at Curro Durbanville in the Western Cape.
• u/15 – Overall winners. Selected regional team players were Koba Mokhonoana, Ruthue Masisi and Precious Basket.
• u/13 – Second place overall.
• u/11 – Third place overall with players Khanyise Mabunda and Tshepiso Thobejane being selected for the regional side that will play on June 26 at Curro Woodhill in Pretoria.
Seven-a-side rugby results:
• u/11 – Won 15-5 against Curro Aurora, drew 10-all against Curro Thatchfield and lost 31-0 against Curro Krugersdorp. Players Nkomane Masebe and Pollen Magawu were selected for the regional side to compete on June 25 and 26 in the Western Cape at the national tourney
• u/13 – Won 20-5 against Curro Krugersdorp, and lost 17-5 against Curro Thatchfield and 34-10 to Curro Aurora. Regional side team players selected were Setshaba Kyame, Thabiso Malete and Sondile Mabileta.
