Lim teams score big at hockey festival

POLOKWANE – The Northern u/12 Hockey Festival took place in the city over the weekend where the Limpopo teams did their province proud.

The festival took place on the hockey and Astro Turf field of Hoërskool Pietersburg (PHS) and a total of 29 boys and girls teams put their skills to the test.

The teams from Limpopo had their work cut out for them as they had to compete against strong teams from South Gauteng, North Gauteng, Mpumalanga, North Free State, and as far as North West in a total of seven matches.

The Limpopo Boys A-team played exceptionally well and won the majority of their matches.

Results:

• Limpopo Boys A – won a total of four matches, drew two and lost one.

• Limpopo Girls A – won a total of two matches, drew three and lost two.

• Limpopo Boys B – won a total of three matches, drew two and lost two.

• Limpopo Girls B Team won a total of two matches, drew two and lost three.

Limpopo Primary Schools Hockey Chairperson, Clarika Strydom, says they are proud of everyone who took part in the event, especially the players, who proudly represented their province.

“These events aim to aid in the development of future South African hockey stars, and the Limpopo teams performed really well. This proves Limpopo is a force to be reckoned with.

“We would like to thank PHS for the use of their hockey field and Technical High School Tom Naudé for the use of their facilities and hostels,” says Strydom.
