Tommies honour 1st team rugby players

Tom Naudé Technical High School honoured the school's first rugby team during a gala dinner at the school last Friday.

POLOKWANE – According to the team’s coach, AB Heyns, the ceremony also served as a year-end function and a farewell for the players who will be leaving the school next year.

He said the players received team jerseys and USB flash drives full of action shots taken throughout the season.

“About seven of our players are in Gr 12 and they won’t be with the team next season. We started the past season at a very low pace but we managed to pick up and play beautiful rugby,” AB said.

He further said their weak start almost dragged the school to the bottom of the log but he is delighted that his boys managed to get back in the game before it was too late.

Kobus de Meyer, Head of Sports at the school, explained there are a lot of changes that will be implemented in the 2017 season.

He said the school has new rugby structures in place that will definitely improve their game.

“I am sure our boys will love the changes. I am afraid I cannot reveal our strategies just yet because our opponents might use them to create counter strategies,” he said.

He added they look forward to the coming season and urged their opponents to start preparing now because they will come at them with everything they have in the new rugby season.
