POLOKWANE – Israel Blackburn’s uncommon name has surely paved the way to much success for this talented Stanfordian.

The gr. 10 Stanford Lake College learner was recently crowned as second princess in the Mini Miss RSA 2013 pageant, which was held at Buffelspoort ATKV. She was also crowned Miss Congeniality in her age group.

Israel endured and persevered throughout the competition even though her blood glucose readings rose dangerously high during the gala event.

She said she was determined to inspire other girls living with diabetes or other conditions to live outstanding lives and to achieve their full potential.

“I did not let anything stand in my way. I want to be a role model and show young girls that they can do anything as long as they believe in themselves,” she said.

There were seven categories in the competition, which included an interview, modelling skills and a demonstration of each of the contestants’ talents, where Israel’s particular talent of belly dancing had the judges on their feet.

“Congratulations to you, Israel. Stanford is proud of your achievement,” said Rona McGaffin, the marketer for the school.
