POLOKWANE – Birdlife Polokwane is hosting a little brown jobs (LBJ) identification course this weekend, starting on Saturday and ending on Sunday.

A little brown job or LBJ is an informal name commonly used by birders for any of the large number of species of small brown passerine birds, many of which are notoriously difficult to distinguish. These include cisticolas, larks and pipits.

From July 24 to 27, Birdlife Polokwane will take its members to the Bateleur Wilderness Birding Bash along with rangers from the Kruger National Park.

The weekend of July 30 will see Birdlife Polokwane doing a winter-coordinated waterbird count (CWAC) at Vencor, Kalkfontein and De Loskop. On the weekend of August 2 there will be another CWAC outing, this time to the Polokwane Bird Sanctuary.

Birdlife Polokwane’s monthly meeting will be held at the Polokwane Golf Club on Tuesday August 12.

On August 16 these birdwatchers will be off to Schoemansdal in the Soutpansberg for a day trip.
