Bianca ready to dazzle and claim Queen World title

Bianca Combrink (17) from Tzaneen will take part in an international modelling competition in Burgas, Bulgaria, from August 17 to 27.

TZANEEN – Bianca Combrink (17) from Tzaneen will take part in an international modelling competition in Burgas, Bulgaria, from August 17 to 27.

This Merensky High School gr. 11 learner rushed home for her three o’clock interview with Review. She asks if she can freshen up and change out of her blue school clothes.

She lets her long blonde hair fall down, changes her clothes quickly and this perfectly proportioned 1,75m gazelle-like teenager drapes herself gracefully on the family patio, exuding a maturity far beyond her years.

It’s not surprising that her role model is internationally known celebrity and go-getter, Kate Moss.

Bianca began modelling in gr. 7. She worked under Leandri Schreiber from the Tzaneen based franchise, Amone Modelling Academy. Bianca won local beauty contest, Kings and Queens World earlier this year. This paved the way for her to represent South Africa in the upcoming Bulgarian contest.

She will travel abroad for the first time in her life with her mother, Ansi, a well-known beautician in Tzaneen.

Bianca will wear a light and dark blue dress in the competition, as well as a national costume. She designed the latter herself with the South African flag as the main motif and a cloak depicting the “big five”.

She has to sit through an interview, wearing her national costume, and will be judged not just on her looks, but on how confident she is and how she intends to make a difference in the world.

Bianca wants to help homeless orphans and wants to visit primary schools and kindergartens in rural areas. She aspires to make a difference for them in terms of living.

Bianca will also dance for the panel of judges. Estie Nawratle, American and Latin dance teacher from Merensky, who also teaches hospitality studies and life orientation, is her dance teacher. Bianca has chosen three dances: a Voortrekker dance, an African traditional dance and a gumboot dance. The ultimate prize at this annual event is the title of Queen World.

Bianca, who was born in Krugersdorp, heaps praise on dress designer, Liesl Cronje. She says she also wore Cronje’s dresses at a recent cancer awareness event.

This Bulgarian competition will open the door to lucrative modelling contracts, but Bianca wants to study a year at university after matric to become a pre-school teacher and will then decide whether to stay on campus or study further through Unisa.
